Tools+Techniques: Seam Guide

Description

I've been meaning to record these for a while now! I'm hoping to do a series of short tips & technique video tutorials (some will have written supplements, too) that highlight either tools that I use on a regular basis, handy techniques, or other tidbits I've picked up over time.

And note: the term "short" is very relative - just as I ramble a lot in comments/journals/Artist Comments, I do the exact same thing in real life, so... yeah! Short is very relative!

For this very first installment, I knew what I wanted to share. The little magnetic seam guide. Many of my friends have heard my sales-pitch on this damned handy little thing a billion times, but I honestly can't stop singing the praises of it. I don't work with commercial patterns too often, but when I do, it's my savior!

This little tool is cheap, and very handy to have (and, if you have an older machine that's all metal, easy to store and not to loose, cuz you just slap it on the side and forget about it 'till you need it ;P). I recommend it, especially if you're working with commercial patterns, or find that concentrating on both where to sew and the seam allowance is difficult to do.

This is not to be used with computerized (self-guided) sewing machines, however! Thank you to ^Kitten-of-Woe for pointing that one out!

I hope that this helps you out, and if it does, please let me know! I'm just trying this out, but I'd like to submit one of these a week, or every other week (although you all know how well I stick to schedules like that...) if you're liking them.

Ahhh! You have something I have! That thing really is as great as you say it. I'm surprised more people don't know about it, considering I found mine just going through things looking at needles not even a couple months after I got my sewing machine.
