Let me tell you something about sewing. It isn't easy. It's like putting together one big puzzle, and there are so many techniques involved it'd be impossible to learn them all just in school. When I see something like this, I'm reminded that there are still some people out there who are willing to go the whole way and explore each technique and make it not only work, but look awesome. xxxHolic Victorian shoot 1: 05 by `taeliac uses corsetry, ruffles, trims, creativity, and velvet. Each one on its own is a challenge, and this giant challenge was beautifully met.

Description

Myself in my Yuuko Victorian Riding Garb from the manga xxxHolic.

Hooray!! I found this picture while looking over the one's taken by my Uncle again - and I realized it was a great picture showing the front sillouhette that the corset gives me, as well as the general size of the back, which is surprisingly hard to get a good picture of - my "body" actually ends right where the tails off of the hat begins... so, I'm actually sticking out about 3' behind where I normally am, not including the train XP

I think, too, that this one shows the wig and the hat very well, as well as the parasol. And the hat tails. And the ruffles on the bottom of the underskirt. Basically, I think this is the best picture I have so far of the entire outfit.

I created all the pieces of this costume, many without the aide of a pattern. The pieces include:
Yuuko
+ Corset: underneath, not visible, but fully steel boned and shaping
+ Shirt: off white cotton with gold ribbon detailing
+ Jacket: black and red cotton velvet, fully lined; pattern fully from scratch
+ Bustle with train support: from a pattern, steel hoop boning bustle for support
+ Underskirt: off white cotton with gold ribbon detailing, with 50+ yards of ruffles
+ Overskirt: black cotton velvet, 7 yards cartridge pleated into waistband
+ Bustle poof: off white cotton with gold detailing, support system internal to keep it's shape
+ Boots: purchased and modified to fit correctly
+ Parasol: purchased and painted, added ruffles
+ Crop: purchased and handle rewrapped
+ Hat: purchased and decorated
+ Wig: purchased and styled

See my scraps for the work in progress pictures of the costumes.

Photoshoot done on May 28, 2007, in Grant Park in South Milwaukee, WI. Photos taken by my Uncle with his uber camera, but unfortuantely, he's not a very good photographer, so these few pictures were the best I have.
