PiNKiTUDE is a pink attitude that says you are bold and take chances
PiNKiTUDE is caring about body and spirit
PiNKiTUDE is style that stands out in a sea of black and grey
PiNKiTUDE is whimsical, sexy, intelligent, and altogether fun!

Today, Chris (~kellin), Becky (~MedeaHiasobi) and I got out to do a photo shoot of the outfit that is my entry into the PiNKiTUDE contest.

Yes, the outfit was made just for this contest :D

The outfit consists of a corset made out of a pink and black hounds tooth woven fabric, with a coutil base, lined in pink cotton. It has both flat white steel bones and spiral steel bones, and is trimmed along the top with black pleated sheer.

The skirt was a fun experience - it's a pencil skirt, so really simple, with a stylized bustle on the back. The bustle is my favorite part, and you can see it better here [link] - I quite literally grabbed a hunk of fabric, and started pinning, pleating and then pressing, to get the unique shape of a bustle created through origami.

As far as accessories go, the sunglasses are Becky's, the fishnets and boots were purchased (hooray clearance shoes!!) and the scarf was one that I dyed for myself last year, and just happened to match!

Outside of the Milwaukee Art Museum, where poor ~MedeaHiasobi froze doing this photoshoot. I'm so happy that we were able to get some great shots, though, and in good, sunny weather (albeit cold) because everything just pops! This is in a tie for my fav picture, with [link]

A superhero look to this one is what I love, like she's ready to kick some butt if anyone is causing any troubles in her neighborhood!

Very minimal work done in Photoshop, mostly to add the border and get the colors right (after much learning how the various adjustment tools I never use work!) Added the paw print from the pack, too, because it just seemed to fit really well there on the fence.

Because those "other" people have no vision? They couldn't see the awesome-ness that you could create? I love color combinations that pop. You really have incredible talent and a fabulously twisted vision! I still love stalking errr... watching your site after all this time!

I have to admit, i'm really not a fa n of houndstooth. That being said, I fucking love that corset. Its not a bigger pattern like the things i've seen around here. It looks terrific! :o

I'm with you - I normally am not a fan of houndstooth - especially the black and white version, only under very extreme circumstances, but I can't resist black and pink together (and such a bright pink!)

:glomp: Thank you!!

I'm thinking of turning my black crushed velvet looking witch dress into a black and pink dress, honestly. I need some pink fabric though, and probably some black lace for trim.

Too bad my paycheck was shit this week. sigh. ; ;

That would be a good idea! If you can recycle things like that, even more awesome! What type of pink fabric would you need, more crushed velvet or something else? Because I think later this week JoAnn Fabrics is having panne (crushed velvet) on sale...

Honestly, I wasnt even thinking about what kind of fabric. I was just thinking color. And it sucks, but the only JoAnns fabric that I know of is 3 hours away in Carbondale, IL. I just know I want something BRIGHT. I was even thinking of cutting the sides and making a corset lace up on them, and having the pink going up the sides. I think thatd tie it in more than just the sleeves/bottom of the dress... I dunno, what do you think?

Really?!

Wow, we have them all over up here, we used to have even more of them - I could find a JoAnn fabrics within 15 minutes of wherever I was shopping, until they closed half of them ^^; :hug:

You wouldn't necessarily have to cut up the sides - you could sew down little loops to then run ribbon through, like corset lacing, and then you wouldn't have the open spots (unless that's what you want ;P) and it would make it a lot more fitted. I think it would be fun, either way - I love lacing!

Even the nearest hobby lobby is a good 45 minutes away. We have NO good craft stores in alton.

Oh, and i was thinking of cutting up the sides to put the pink behind it to add a bit more color.

That would actually be really nice to do - a bit more flash and color is really nice, I think! And it shouldn't be too hard to do, either, especially if you can get the crushed velvet in the pink, so it would be easy to sew together~

Okay, I swear I replied to this one twice the other day :faint: WTF? dA is eating mah comments!!

Anywho, it was much setting up the shot, posting, Chris grabbing her jacket, shuffling out of frame, click-click-click, and give her her jacket back before she froze... ^^;

It all turned out really awsome and Becky didn't end up blue (which would have been bad, woulda clashed with the pink)!

Hehe, thank you!

The corset shape was fun - I wanted a heart shape, but unfortunately, I forgot Becky has a longer torso than I had anticipated, so it was almost lewd on her ^_^;; The dip in the front is what did it! ;P

I'm just happy she wore it, and didn't tell me to screw off :giggle:

Heeheehee!

Out of curiosity, how much would it be to commission you for one like that? This isn't a serious offer, since I'm pretty broke, it's more a matter of interest.... (So I can dream about it :p)

I'm actually not too sure ^^; The corset would probably be something like $175 or so, but I'm not exactly sure - it's that so much of it had to be hand sewn; I think I spent a total of 4 hours sewing the bias tape on for the bone casing, and along the top and everything XP I hate slip stitching!

The skirt... not a clue in the world! It was just some random hunks of fabric I had from a jacket my mother made for herself, and just kind of... started pinning.. it probably wouldn't be too much, if I could figure out how I did the bustle part ;P I should learn to make patterns of random things, just in case they work out :giggle:

Thanks! I was mostly interested in the corset but that skirt is awesome too! I really want to get more hand made clothing, and start making more of my own too.

Oh, slip stiching! I actually like it XD I find I can put on a movie or something and just sit and hand sew without a problem, hee.

:lmao: Oh man... I do like hand sewing now, because it's so relaxing, but getting to that point was horrible... but trying to do it through coutil for the corset XP That was painful, even with the leather thimbles!

Making your own clothing is really fun; I never really get to make myself anything, but when I do, it's awesome! Corsets especially are fun to wear randomly ;P

Ooooo, you, I can see how that would be awful! I sewed through leather by hand once.... Don't want to do that again.

My problem is finding the time between work and school to make anything. I'm hoping once my exams are over (next week!) I can get started on my cosplays.... because I don't think I'll get them done for April otherwise, lol. I really do need to get myself a corset one of these days....

oh, and I keep forgetting, but I used your ruffle tutorial for a something on my halloween costume! It was just a little bit of lace, but it worked really well! You can see pictures here [link] ! That specific bit of lace is the bit on the brown skirt. :D (I'm dressed as Door from the wonderful book Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, by the way...) I can't wait to use it on something else now! Thanks!

Oh! Leather I think you should pre-punch the holes with an awl, or use a special needle that has a leaf blade on it, that cuts the leather :hug: I've never done it, but I've read about it ^^;

I keep thinking I need to get working on my cosplays for the spring, too, or they'll never get done - I'm already cutting it closer than I'd want to :O I actually couldn't get to sleep last night for being haunted by the lace trim ideas :faint:

And, I'm so happy to hear that!! :glomp: The outfit is fun! I never got to finish that book, I really should; Chris loves it! Hehe, I just love the layers!! :glomp:
