Hooray! Another commission finished (well, the costume part of it, at least), and I'm starting to feel like I'm at least getting back on schedule...
This outfit is Mai, from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I have to say, I love all of the costumes from this show, even if I've never seen it. The research for this one yielded a lot of really awesome outfits, simple, but one's that could easily be done wrong (as I've seen a lot of people do, too) because people think that they're
too simple, so they cut corners on it.
Anywho, this is a shirt, which zips up the back, a jacket, which snaps on, and fake hakama, which are insanely full like you wouldn't believe (and I'm currently writing a really long tutorial for). They'll look so cool on the commissioner, I know that for sure!
All cottons, by the commissioners request, and was really easy to work with, although I spent more time ironing this than sewing parts of it

That stupid collar on the shirt, too, gave me problems, like a collar never has before... I must have just been dumb the past few days XP
Not to mention, my camera decided to hate me, and I had to put this outfit on the dress form... 4 times? Hence the crinklie, I'm sorry! I kept looking and seeing that the pictures were on the card, would undress the form, and then plug in the card, only to find it blank or corrupted -___- Hooray technology

So... yeah! Hooray! New costume, done and done! Gonna work on the wig as soon as the wig base arrives.

On a related but odd note, how do you get up the guts to go to college for something that no one's ever even heard of? I love designing and making costumes, figuring out the "How?" and the almost more important "Why?", but I can't find a job anywhere, and I'm asking to volunteer!
I don't know what I want to do. but I do know something now that I didn't know a week ago: if I have the chose, I'll pick costuming over what I thought I wanted to do with my life, and I have the option right now to make mistakes and get messy.
So I guess I'm asking...is there any point in trying to make a living doing this? And if there is, what would you suggest doing to help myself along?
thanks. oh, and this is great!
