Dragonfly Wa-Loli by taeliac Dragonfly Wa-Loli by taeliac
I've been working like crazy, can't you tell? More submissions in the past few weeks than the previous years, methinks!

So, here is the outfit that I wound up purchasing the fabric for when I went in to get two yards of blue cotton...

A full wa-loli outfit, done on a whim, inspired by the obi fabric - black with silver dragonflies all over it.

The kimono top is black cotton, and has white piping around the collar, and polka dot ribbon that matches the skirt around the sleeves. And, the sleeves are a good 3 feet long. Then, in the place of the crests on a kimono, there are star beads with little dragonfly charms hanging from them, with a larger star on the back.

The skirt is a pleated skirt, that is made of a black and white polka dot cotton as well. It has elastic in the waist for comfort. It's about 18" long or so, so a bit longer than I'm used to doing for wa-loli outfits~ No petticoat this time, either.

For the accents around the waist, there are two sashes - one is a gray cotton underneath (the effect of it coming around the kimono neckline is all in how the sash is put on), and on top of that, there is a sash and pre-tied bow made out of that absolutely pretty but dreadful to work with brocade. On top of all of that is a cord with a button accent with tassels hanging down from it - the button is pretty and shiny!

Now, why is brocade horrid to work with?

Other than it slips around when you're trying to sew it, frays like crazy, and leaves little silvery whisps of frayed fabric shininess all over, nothing really. Except that it doesn't photograph too well. But, that's that.

The bow in the back is my favorite - I've found a different way of folding it up where it looks a bit more natural, and this time, I put two bows on this, one stacked on the other. I then folded the tips in interestingly - I thought it mimicked the look of the dragonfly wings (although it does look more like a butterfly, come to think of it).

I like this one! All in all, about 14 hours of work start to finish, and well worth it. It should be up for sale on my site [link] or on my Etsy store [link] soon (I'm just way too tired to do it right now, to be honest...)

This is a very beautiful design! I love the different fabric patterns you've mixed together, and the little details are so nice. I particularly like tassels and double bow. :)

Thank you so much!

I love it when I get to play with combinations of things that are a little unexpected - I honestly didn't think I'd like the polka dots with the dragonflies, but my hubby convinced me otherwise. I'm happy he did, too :D

I need time to make more wa-loli, I love them so much :glomp:

I love it! I swear I have to get a wa-loli outfit from you. In fact, what size is this? I may have to stalk your etsy and get it if you haven't already sold it.

:giggle: Aww! Thank you! I love making them, I'd be happy to do something original for you, if you want!

This one is up on Etsy now, I believe it's approximately a Medium/Large, but I can't remember off the top of my head... listing is: [link] :D

I have fabric for like 4 more, ranging from more traditional Japanese-esque prints to funky flower thingers :D I need more time in the day to sew!!

i think the dotted skirt with the ribbon around the sleeves was an excellent touch! greatly done. =D the bow looks great~ <3 and i would love to see some detail shots of the obi <3 i swear i thought the under sash was spring green, untill you said it was grey. O.o i still think spring green under there wouldve been a fabulous touch though. great job!

:giggle: it's that weird gray color, kind of like the DeviantArt background, that is kind of gray, but kind of green, too - or, at least, it doesn't photograph too well XP

I'm hoping to get this on a friend of mine to model, and I'll defintiely get some better shots of it! Now that it's up on my site, I think there are higher pixel images up there than I put on dA, but I don't honestly remember ^^; *goes off on a ramble*

That is soooo cute. Are you selling it?

Regardless- how much would you charge to custom make a kimono with longer sleeves?

Thank you!!

I do plan on selling it soon, I just have gotten a little lazy this weekend with technology (spent it making patterns :boogie:) so it's not up anywhere yet ^^; It'll probably wind up on Etsy, and my regular storefront, just because I love spamming the internets ;P

For cost on one, it just mainly depends on the fabric cost, and what else you want with it - I haven't done full length traditionally sewn kimono before, but if you wouldn't mind it in this "fake" style, I could definitely see what I can do for you! :D

full length sleeves. <: I love the short, "modern" kimonos.

I was just curious on the pricing. ._.; don't get your hopes up.Sorry. My booty is saving right now- to move out. Hur.

Well, roughly, most of the Wa-Loli outfits come out between $175 and $250, depending XP

I totally know what you mean about saving up for moving out ~ I'm doing the same thing, but to move into a storefront :D

Totally would buy your stuff if I passed a store with it in it.
I've seen some stuff at some jap stores, like Kinokunya. One of my fav stores. And Some SIMMMMPLE layouts of an outfit. An apron, a red top. Like $300. It's ridiculous.

Well, next year, we'll do lots of makeup panels, so I can paint you up like a crazy person, if you like, or at least do more crazy stuffs on her ;P (that was the person I got to paint up last year, right?)

We're not vending or anything, but I may just try to work in a good promo there of "and buy my stuffs online!" if I can - we haven't even heard about panels or anything XP
