DESIGN : Fall Green Kimono Corset

Description

Taking some pictures of the kimono I purchased to make into corsetry, and trying to see what I can do with them!

This corset will be made out of a haori that is beautiful fall colors, especially the olive green. There are hints of a salmon pink/orange as well, and then lighter tints of both colors. Finally, it is detailed out with blacks, as well as gold that has a bit of sparkle to it, too. The base of the fabric is a cream or off white, and there are some parts left bright white. The weave is a chirimen, and I do believe it is silk.

There are all sorts of fall motifs that I love on this, including momoji (maple leaves), plum blossoms and chrysanthemums.

When the corset is made, it will have the front and back panels out of this kimono, and then the rest out of a matching olive green silk. Framing the kimono pieces, as well as binding the top and bottom, will be a gold silk to match the gold in the kimono fabric. Unfortunately, I can never seem to get good gold colors digitally, I have no idea why!

It'll be a heart shaped overbust, covering past nipple, so I guess about a 3/4 cup. It will be fully boned, of course, and the innards made out of coutil as well. Also, all of my corsets are reversible, so it will feature some sort of fun cotton print on the inside (for both comfort, and to change this up from being a nicer, more formal piece to a fun, wear out anywhere kind!) If someone is getting this custom made, I can show them a range of cottons that I have on hand, otherwise, it can be a pleasant surprise - trust me, I have good taste in these sorts of things ;P

Not much else to say about it, really. I'm hoping that I can start doing this instead of premaking samples of each possible corset idea, simply because I don't really want to waste kimono fabric on something that I just know someone is going to say "ooh! I love this, but it's not in my size!" and then I may be out of the fabric - and I have never seen the same kimono twice, that's for sure!

So... what do you think?
