Done for my Costume Design class, Spring 2007-2008
The theme for these sketches was starting with ornamentation. So, we were given "themes" for the characters, and then we had to choose two or maybe even three types of ornamentation (bells, ball fringe, sequins, feathers, etc) and then build the design around those themes.
This is my personal fav of the one's I've uploaded! This character was supposed to be "A flirty girl in a period drama". The word 'drama' was what was the hardest part to design around, honestly.
Well, for the ornamentation, I picked pleats and flowers. Mostly flowers, though. Because she's flirty, darnit!
She's in a near turn-of-the-Century play, and has a wide neckline with flowers all on it, with the drapie front piece on the skirt, a corset-ish bodice, and a bustle in the back. Because I love the bustle like nothing else. There are matching flowers in the hair, too.
I wanna color this sometime this summer. I'm thinking rose pink, but I don't know... maybe a taupe with pink flowers? Who knows! I left the file large for download, so if anyone wants to color this, feel free - just give me credit for the original (you can clean it up, too) and let me see it when you upload it!
Feel free to use the design on your own OC designs if you want - just shoot me a link when it's done, and I'd appreciate a credit in the description, too...
Oooo that's lovely!!! Would make a gorgeous wedding dress/ball gown. Looks quite ventilated so it would be great for a hot day when you need to look glamorous lol.
You're right! It would definitely work for something like that, it would be so comfortable to wear, too (well, once you'd get used to a corset, that is!)

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
